Street Chrome by Jason-C Street Chrome by Jason-C
On Saturday I was in the city to get some photographs of the Riverfire fireworks and ariel display, but I arrived late and couldn't get a good location on the South Bank foreshore to set up my tripod, so I couldn't get any good shots of the fireworks. So after it had finished, I went into the city to get some shots of this sculpture that I have been meaning to photograph for quite some time.

I have edited this shot quite extensively in Photoshop, applying a tonally enhanced monochrome filter to a duplicate layer, then painting a saturated section back over the statue. I then altered the contrast and colour values of the statue extensively, but I haven't changed the shape and composition of the reflections on the chrome surface itself.

This a grouse shot ;) . I've walked passed those sculptures many times and I don't think I've ever thought much of them until now. :+fav:

:3 Wow, I really like it! It kinda makes me dizzy for some reason, but that's okay, I forgive you. Did you do a long exposure on this one? I see the light on the street, I'm guessing from a car... and wondering how you got the light but not the car... I'm guessing you manip'd it there... 0_o

Yah, it's a long exposure! :D One interesting aspect about long exposure photography featuring fast moving objects like cars is that they often don't make much of an impression on the image because they're not reflecting enough light to register at the low arpetures and ISO sensitivities used. However, the car lights make an instant impression on the film/sensor, so that's why you can usually only see the streaks of light. If you look in the lower right hand corner of the image, you can see the ghostly form of a human who was walking along the pavement during the exposure. Because humans move much slower than cars, they make more of an impression.
