It's been raining all night here in Brisbane. When it rains at night here in summer, the air is filled with the sound of croaking from the local amphibian wildlife. The ugly and pestilent Cane Toads come out in force, go for a walk around the block and you'll easily be able to find 50 without even trying. A far rarer and more welcome sight is the beautiful native Australian Tree Frog, one of my very favorite creatures on the face of the earth.

I found this specimen sitting on my kitchen window, and I just knew I had to photograph him! I fetched a plastic container to transport him to the bathroom (you should never touch Frogs with your finders, they have very sensitive skin and can be easily ingured) where there is a fluro-light and good conditions for a froggy photoshoot! In this shot, he's having a rest as he was climbing up the bathroom mirror.

I just used my standard 17-85mm lens to get this shot, and I was very surprised at how much macro detail it captured. This is as close as I could focus the camera to the Frog, and even at this distance there was a large amount of empty space around the Frog I had to crop out in Photoshop, so this shot won't be available as a high-res print. At some point I really want to get a good macro lens for my 350D.
