Title courtesy of ~xxtjxx When I showed him some test renders of this last night, he said that this looks like some kind of weird deep sea sea urchin. I corrected him by pointing out that it was actually a deep space urchin. It's an easy mistake to make.
awesome , love the material !
Being a NASA astronaut such as myself I see these all the time. Great job.
so beautiful and weird!
nice work man. So weird actually.
Haha. I love how collaboration can breed creativity. This is truly a visually complex piece. I'm not sure how you achieved the pattern effect, but it's definitely cool! Unique and exotic texturing. The surrealism of the image overall is astonishing. I'd love to know how this was done. How much of the image was achieved in 2D? Amazing, and almost dizzying in it's complexity. Great work! Do you have a "raw" render of the main (center) shape? It's really fascinating to me, and looks like a lot of extrusions and bridging took place in it's creation. Keep em coming. This makes a great wallpaper!
Thank you, that means a lot to me. It was partly inspired by your work, which is some of the most interesting and creative experimental 3d work on deviantart right now.
Wow. Thanks so much for the high praise. Way to put the pressure on me. hahaha. Seriously though, thanks. I definitely don't think it's all that experimental compared to what some folks are doing. I'm just playing around with the functions in Max, and seeing what they can do. Half the time, it's just accidental that I come up with something cool. Your works are just as interesting. Especially this one has me drooling.
